Design Challenge is a SYFgoesOnline! platform dedicated to showcasing students’ original works in art and design. 


Through this platform, budding student-designers who are shortlisted are provided with opportunities to further develop their interests and skills in graphic design in an authentic setting through mentorship with professional designers. Selected original works are also featured at various public platforms. 


This platform is open to all Primary Schools, Secondary and Independent Schools, Junior Colleges, Millennia Institute and Integrated Programme (IP) Schools, Specialised Independent Schools, Specialised Schools, Privately Funded Schools and Special Education (SPED) Schools.




Interested students are to approach their school's Art teacher for information on how to participate.

We invite you to create a book cover that will inspire the key visual for the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2023. The key visual will be adapted to various formats and used in the publicity materials for the SYF, such as banners, posters, social media posts and/or souvenirs. Approach your school's art teacher to find out more about key visuals. We would like to see your vision and ideas in response to the given themes to celebrate the arts.


Create a book cover that reflects your journey in the arts using one of the following themes.
You may use the guiding questions below your chosen theme to help you in creating your artwork.

  • How did you pick up your passion/ interest in the arts?
  • What or who inspired you?
  • How did the experience made you feel?



  • How do you feel during the process of creating works in the arts? (e.g. a piece of artwork, a song, a dance, a script, etc)
  • How do these feelings spur you to continue your pursuit of the arts?
  • What relationships do I build in the process of creation? 
  • How has your journey in the arts made an impact on your life?
  • How do I continue to grow my passion/ interest?
  • What are some ways you could share your love for the arts with the community?

by 16 May 2022 Shortlisted entries will be announced via e-mail to all schools.
Students who have been shortlisted are expected to attend a masterclass held between
23 – 27 May 2022

Selected shortlisted entries will inspire the key visual for SYF 2023.

To be Confirmed  Design Masterclass
The design masterclass for shortlisted students builds on the book cover task. Shortlisted students will be informed of the design masterclass details separately.

Shortlisted entries from the Design Challenge 2022 and the design masterclass will be published on the SYF social media platforms and/or SYF website.

 by 30 September 2022  ⎻ Certificates will be sent to all participants of Design Challenge 2022.
